Item photos

Add a food photo to any menu item so guests see the dish before they order. Covers JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF uploads up to 5 MB, plus tips. Every plan.

A photo makes a dish far easier to choose. Each menu item can carry one image, shown beside the name and description on your published menu.

Adding a photo

In the Studio editor's Content mode, every item row has a photo slot on the left. Items without one show an Add a photo placeholder.

  1. Click the photo slot on the item you want to illustrate.
  2. Pick an image, or drag one onto the slot.
  3. The upload starts immediately and the thumbnail replaces the placeholder.

Accepted formats are JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF, up to 5 MB. We resize and convert each upload automatically, so you can drop in a photo straight from your phone without preparing it first.

Choosing photos that work

Menus are read on phones, in a narrow column, often in low light. A few things help:

  • Shoot the dish square-on and fill the frame. Wide shots of a whole table lose the dish entirely at thumbnail size.
  • Use one consistent style. Photos taken in the same light, from the same angle, make a menu look composed rather than assembled.
  • Skip photos rather than use weak ones. An item with no photo looks deliberate. An item with a dark, blurry photo looks neglected.

You do not need a photo on every item. Mixing illustrated and text-only items is fine, because guests read the text first either way.

Replacing or removing a photo

Click an existing thumbnail to replace it, or use the remove control to clear it. Like every other change in the Studio, this edits your draft. Guests see nothing until you publish.
